The aorta has a wall composed of three layers – the tunica intima, the tunica media, and the tunica adventitia. The innermost layer, the tunica intima is lined by a single layer of flattened endothelial cells.The tunica media is the layer of concentrically-arranged smooth muscles.The tunica adventitia is the outermost layer made chiefly of longitudinally arranged collagen fibres.
